Michael began college in printmaking and soon discovering glass and its possibilities. Michael has studied with or interned for Dale Chihuly, Mark Peiser, Klaus Moje, Fritz Dreisbach, Jack Shmidt, and Ann Wårff. Jack Shmidt started Michael on the sandblasting technique that became one of his signature techniques. After several studios in Tucson, he has now joined his wife, Margaret Joplin, in making unique glass works using the lost wax method to create public art as well as lighting and other artistic, decorative and functional items.
