One-of-a-kind mold-blown & coldworked glass
6 individual pieces
Each varies in size; the tallest piece is about 9.5″h; the smallest is 6″h. Can be arranged in many different ways.

This series was made by blowing glass into plaster molds shaped from casts of hands and plastic bubble wrap. The glass pieces were cut in half to create their grotto-like shapes and reveal the interior colors. Symbolic and mythological in nature, a grotto is an external refuge, a natural well, a devotional and spiritual space. This piece shifts the definition to include the body as grotto.

“I work primarily in mold-blown and kiln-formed glass along with drawing and video. My work takes process and shape as an entry point to talk about absence, the body/embodiment, and fragility. It asks, what can shape hold and how can material processes affirm or change meaning. The source shapes in my work come from decorative, expressive or femme symbols.  They are culled from my everyday life as a mother and a daughter, from the environment around me: bows, metal hearts from fences, toy packaging, medical items. I look for shapes that are full with meaning, are overlooked, or over spill their own contours. I love shapes that can’t be contained. I use the medium of glass to support, subvert or make these things strange.”
